Point Lookout House Renovation
BRIEF
The brief for the architect was to renovate an existing beach house at Point lookout. The existing two room dwelling was to be transformed into a modest yet simple holiday home that would be suitable for both the rental market and for extended family holidays. Robust materials suitable to the harsh environment where also a high priority to the client to minimise maintenance.
RESOLUTION
The layout retained as much as possible of the existing dwelling and carefully reworked these areas into the new floor plans. The final layout allows for two families to occupy the house. The upper floor with views of the water has two sleeping areas and a bathroom while the main floor has a bathroom laundry open planned living a small bunkroom and master bedroom. The lower level has entry and storage.
SUSTAINABLE FEATURES
The house is designed to catch the breeze and has great orientation. Reuse of the existing dwelling has helped to minimalise the cost of the building. Water tanks and PV panels are installed. Robust materials and careful detailing has meant that maintenance is kept to the minimum.
