Paddington House Two Renovation
BRIEF
Located in Paddington, Brisbane, Queensland. The architectural brief for this renovation in inner city Brisbane included a new kitchen, laundry, and associated outdoor spaces on main level with a new guest room and ensuite built under, the additions where to have a modern contrast to the existing house. The small lot house was a challenge to the architect in making renovation decisions that where both economical and feasable.
RESOLUTION
The site was quite steep and presented numerous challenges throughout the project for both the architect and the builder. The Brisbane City Council had listed this 1980’s built house as a Character Residential dwelling, hence a Development approval was needed to proceed.
The finished renovation integrated a large modern kitchen with a northerly aspect into the tight existing fabric of the house. Combined with a new laundry, secondary entrance and secure drying area, all discreetly screened from the street.
SUSTAINABLE FEATURES
North orientated windows throughout the new renovation on both levels with carefully considered awnings and eaves overhang details facilitate passive solar control throughout the year. The project dramatically improved natural light levels throughout these spaces along with better cross ventilation.
