Auchenflower House Renovation
BRIEF
The architects brief for this Brisbane small lot character residential dwelling was for an extension to the rear that would encompass a new carport on ground with living kitchen at street level and master bedroom and ensuite and dressing on the upper floor. The existing workers cottage was to be retained and integrated into the main living areas.
RESOLUTION
Through careful planning and negotiation with the council the additions are sympathetic to the existing workers cottage and contrasting in form. The void space is both light and breezy and forms the core of the living area.
SUSTAINABLE FEATURES
Proper orientation of the building has allowed for good passive solar design. Internal and external shutters are installed to assist with control of both breezes and sunlight. The central void assists with the house ventilating properly.
